How Would Hubby Handle That Today?

A comment from "Annee" on one of my posts got me thinking.

The post she was responding to was about a rather embarrassing evening early in our relationship when I had a complete meltdown over something as simple as where we were going to eat.

If you haven't read it, you can find the whole story here:

Where Do You Want to Eat?

Looking back at that evening now, I honestly have to blush a little. I behaved like a little child. What makes me cringe even more is thinking about what my husband put up with that evening before it eventually ended with me being spanked.

Annee wrote:

“You were both so young! An argument that escalates over something trivial reflects ‘toddler’ dynamics. Might I suggest that now that same situation would be handled by your hubby making scrambled eggs and lovingly sending you to bed?”

That made me laugh—and then it made me think.

How would hubby handle that today?

Wow. What a difference twenty-two years can make!

First, there is maturity. I rarely have a meltdown like that anymore. I have learned how to communicate better, how to recognize when I'm getting frustrated, and, hopefully, how to act like the grown woman I actually am.

And hubby has matured too. Twenty-two years of marriage, raising children, careers, responsibilities, successes, failures, and everything else life has thrown at us has changed both of us.

So if I somehow managed to have a repeat performance today, I don't think it would play out exactly the way it did back then.

If the kids were home, I suspect hubby's first move would be to send me to the bathroom to sit on the toilet for a while. Basically, a little timeout. Not because he thinks I'm literally a toddler, but because sometimes I need to be removed from the situation long enough to stop being stubborn and get my attitude under control.

If that didn't work and I was still in a funk, I can imagine him simply ordering food for the family to pick up and sending my oldest daughter to get the food and take her sister along with her. That would give hubby and me some time to talk privately.

And then I'd have a few choices.

I could eat what everyone else was eating.

Or, if I was determined to continue being difficult about food, hubby could have me drink a protein shake instead. I'm underweight and really can't afford to lose any more weight—that's a whole other story—but he certainly isn't going to let me simply go without eating because I'm having an attitude.

And then?

I might find myself being sent off to bed.

Yes, I can practically hear some of you laughing at the thought of a grown woman being sent to bed like a little girl who has lost her dinner privileges.

And honestly, I probably would be a little embarrassed by it.

But that's where the difference between then and now comes in. It wouldn't be about the food. The food would just be the trigger. The real issue would be my attitude and how I was handling myself.

I can even picture what would happen when the girls came home. Hubby might take a picture of the food and ask me one more time if I'm sure I don't want to eat.

Knowing him, it would probably be said very calmly.

And knowing me, I'd probably be sitting there realizing that I had somehow turned a simple question about dinner into a much bigger issue than it ever needed to be.

Of course, that probably wouldn't be the end of the matter.

Whatever happened that evening would likely be discussed the following weekend when the girls weren't home. By then, there would be time to talk about what happened, why I reacted the way I did, and what I could have done differently.

And that is another thing that has changed.

When we were young, we were still learning each other. We were learning how to argue, how to communicate, how to handle frustration, and how to be married.

Twenty-two years later, we know each other pretty well.

I know what makes hubby tick, and he knows me—sometimes probably better than I know myself. We have had a lot of practice at this marriage thing.

So Annee's comment really did make me stop and think.

Would hubby make scrambled eggs and lovingly send me to bed?

Maybe.

Would he still deal with the attitude if I was acting like a toddler?

Absolutely.

But I think the bigger difference is that today we have more tools. We have more maturity. We have more experience. And we have twenty-two years of learning how to navigate life together.

I certainly hope I would never repeat that particular dinner meltdown.

But if I did?

Well... I have a pretty good idea how that evening would end.

And I suspect I'd be blushing about it just as much twenty-two years from now.

  1. Hi Lisa, Childish behavior is less then ideal. But remember you are a wife, mother, teacher. Etc. You handle so much. It is understandable to be tired and exhausted. Oh yeah you also keep a home and seem to do 90% of the housework. Perhaps he could step in and cook or clean to take things off your plate so you are not so exhausted. He gets time away for business trips. But yes I hope he shows you grace and makes dinner and lets you rest. The way you write about him it seems he'd be more mature and caring and see the family would not run without you. He could give you a time out to relax and think about what you want. Everything should not be solved by spanking you. Wondering

The lifestyle is beautiful. The submissive, The (TIH) Holds the power and she freely gives her consent to her husband because she trust is him. It is a whale thawed out process of communication and negotiation where any and everything is talked about openly and freely. Everything is Consensual and the taking in hand knows what works best for her. She is brave enough to Communicate her needs and wants and desires. They taking in hand, realizes her need of self restraint, and sometimes she realizes where she needs to grow.

Perfect practice makes perfect and who is perfect? No one. !

It’s trial and error. It’s habit forming, it is intentional living.

How many misbehaved wives would quickly become well behaved if only they had a husband that said, What do you think the consequences should be for your misbehavior and unbecoming way and let her communicate. And let him listen.

    1. Single guy, that consent presumably comes with her ability to say no and revoke her consent to
the lifestyle? And sigh, “misbehaving wives” . We are adults with our own decision making power - we do not “misbehave”. Lisa doesn’t even talk about it this way. Linda

    2. Thank you Linda,
The single guy, no not "Misbehaving Wives". I make mistakes like anyone else. but I ask (as an adult) to be held accountable. And yes..... I have the authority as an adult to say no. I like what hubby said to me, "I am here to make you better, and I can't lead without you following, so tell me what you need and thank you for trusting me!"
I like this quote by the Pulitzer Prize winning historian Laurel Thatcher, “Well-behaved women seldom make history.”

  3. Single Male, No one is perfect. Why do you never talk about male accountability or character? You must first become a man of honor to lead. Many men on these sites are abusive. Make sure you are a good man with real consequences for yourself before you start pointing the finger. This might not get published and that's OK but you won't have the opportunity to grow if not challenged. Accountability for Both

    1. Hi Single Male,
Thanks for replying. I just want to say, have written about hubby's accountability. in this article. https://lisaspanking.blogspot.com/2026/03/how-is-husband-held-accountable.html I am not sure if that will link so you can search for it or copy and paste the url.
The reason I do not talk about it often is because this is a spanking blog and usually is about me being taken in hand. In our relationship he is not taken in hand. But read that article I wrote back in March. Tell me what you think.

  5. Lisa, I was asking single guy how he holds himself accountable. I will stop asking as he never answers. Just uses derogatory terms for women. Accountability for Both

  6. Single Guy

I’m the most respectable friendliest guy you gonna meet I haven’t said anything derogatory. I’m a single man, but a man has a huge responsibility to be a leader that has a good reputation although I’ll never reach perfection and nobody else will either there is a responsibility of reading a Bible and deliberately on purpose striving to obey. It’s called having integrity to the best of your abilities so ! I’m not negative about anything. I read on the blogs and the journal and the fantasies. I love everything I’ve read. I’m a big supporter of the lifestyle. I love the old traditional ways of how men and women conducted their lives. I love everything about it. Call me old school I like being an old school.

And proud to be a right wing, but I’m probably more right wing than anybody I know. I don’t straddle the fence and I don’t go left bob wire fence is hurt. I got views, but I’m not a politician and I’m from the old school and single no children not married. I’m doing my homework. I’m studying and the reason I got started in the code. I wanted to fix my problems that I may be causing in the relationships And trying to figure out how to eliminate the problems the next woman is gonna bring to me. I call that smart, and personal growth mindset. I might be all the isms but I hold to a standard. I don’t flip flop ! I personally enjoy reading all comments and opinions from all of you. I think your assessment of me is far-fetched not reality, but I just normally don’t reply back that you think what you want ! I have no problem with any of it. I learn a lot from the blogs and the journals. it helps with my personal growth and my Bible reading and a very unique way ! I’m grateful.

    1. I feel like this is exactly what people who do not have children give advice on what "They" would do if they had children. Your words would carry much more weight if you were married 10 years (past the 7 year itch / and the start of children).
This life style is riddled with spousal abuse seperation, and divorce. I am a person of science and facts and the facts do not look good for so many in this type of relationship. Reminds me of the 50s where men think fondly of that era. But if you look at peer reviewed study after study you will find that the 50s was terrible time for anyone but white males. "Physical and emotional abuse of wives was a major problem in the 1950s, but society treated it as a private "family matter" rather than a crime" There are lots of reasons (and I can provide the articles for it if you like). I happen to be lucky because hubby wants the best for me and only spanks me because I have communicated that I need it. Not because it is his right.
